According to a new study from Arizona State University, Atlanta ranks number two in job growth among major metropolitan areas. Second to Houston, Atlanta had 3.1 percent job growth between January 2011 and January 2012.
Findings were based on the latest job figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The statistics reflected non-agricultural job growth among populations of at least a million workers. Other top job producing areas included Denver, Dallas, Seattle, Cincinnati, Phoenix, Riverside, Tampa and Pittsburgh.
Increasing job growth is linked to the gradually improving economy nationwide. Overall, almost two million new jobs were created in the one year period, which was a 1.6 percent increase from the previous year.
Georgia was not among the top job growth states, but the state did achieve 7.13 percent job growth in the professional and business sectors, which amounts to 37,000 new jobs.
